Croton is a summer annual weed that ranges from 4 to 20 inches in height and is predominantly found in the southeastern United States. Stems are covered with hairs that take on a star shaped appearance. Leaves are thick and heart shaped. First true leaves are round to oval and have margins that are toothed. Leaves become lance shaped with maturity, approximately 2 inches long. Leaves below the flowers appear whorled and have hairs on the upper and lower leaf surfaces that take on a star shaped appearance.
