Smooth bromegrass is a leafy, sod-forming, cool season perennial grass. The weed is found on prairies, roadsides, ditches, and moist, wooded areas. It grows best on well-drained soil. The long-leafed grass has a hairless, erect stem and spreads by deep-rooted, horizontal rhizomes. In some areas it is planted as a forage grass and can spread to turf area through rhizomes or by seed dispersal.
