Matchweed is a perennial species of plant that grows in a mat like form that is commonly found in the transition zone to the coastal areas of the south. It commonly grows in wet lowlands. The plant has opposite leaves that are formed on a hairy stem that have serrated edges toward the tip of the leaf. The flowers of the plant range in color from purple to whitish. Since this plant grows in a mat like shape its main source of reproducing is through stolons, above ground roots, and seeds.
