Panicum is an annual grass species of plant. There are many different varieties of Panicum, but most are 6-12 inches tall with blades of the plant having a white midrib through the middle of them. The stem of the plant is usually hollow being swollen at each of the nodes, or areas where a blade forms. The stem is also usually zig zags throughout the plant. On each of the blades at the base is a ligule or small paper looking membrane that sticks up from where the blade attaches to the stem. All Panicums have a spikelet that produces very tiny seed at the top of the plant that doesn’t produce colored flowers.
