Wild Violet is a broadleaf perennial weed that grows 2-5 inches tall. The flowers are similar to pansies with 3 lower petals and two lateral petals. Flower color ranges from white to blue to purple and typically appear in early spring. The leaves can vary but are usually heart shaped. It reproduces by seed, stolon, and rhizome. Wild Violets are found throughout the eastern U.S. and as far west as the Rocky Mountains. Wild Violets are difficult to control. Best results are achieved if herbicides are applied early, before the plant matures.
