There are many species of sweat bees in several general in the USA. They can be brightly colored or dark, or shinny and their markings vary from green to red to yellow, often with bands similar to those of honeybees. As most know, sweat bees have an attraction to perspiration, which offers them moisture and salts, making them an annoying pest to humans and animals.

Average size 1/4 to 3/4 inch. Larva, develops in underground nests, eat from a mass of pollen and nectar that was provided to them when their eggs were laid. Adults, like many other bees, eat nectar and pollen.
