Root Knot Nematodes

Take a small soil sample from around the roots of the affected fig tree. Add amendments to the soil, some soil amendments also release toxins that can kill nematodes. Apply 1 oz. of all purpose fertilizer like a 10-10-10 each month from the beginning of growth through the end of July. Apply all-purpose fertilizer to larger plants three times a year in late winter, early June, and mid-July.

Symptoms on affected plants may be on parts of the plant both above and below the ground. Above the ground, plants may appear stunted and discolored and may die. Plants may wilt easily in hot, dry weather and appear to have nutrient deficiencies.
